Joseph Mathew: Founder, Executive Director

Mr. Mathew is the proud founder of The Leverage Foundation. He is an enormous supporter, contributor and believer in the non-profit and charitable cause sector. He has worked tirelessly for the benefit of a variety of social and charitable causes, including the support of disaster relief, homelessness, hunger, at-risk under-resourced youth, cancer research, child abuse, bereavement, arts, and education. His wide-spread innovative work on the 2005-2006 Hurricane Katrina Relief effort garnered the attention of the state of Louisiana and neighboring governments and was presented to the Global Executive Council at Accenture as a model Fortune 100 corporate citizenship endeavor. He has been highly committed to offering his deep functional skills, resources, monies, and time to this space for over 20 years, with compelling success. Mr. Mathew is not new to this arena only as an adult: he has been participating in social cause events with his parents, brothers, and friends since he was a young boy. He has utilized his academic, professional, musical, and athletic abilities to embrace and drive value into this sector. It is an immense component of his life.

Additionally, Mr. Mathew has approximately 20 years of highly relevant business experience in significant core areas. Most recently, he has spent the past 8 years in strategy management consulting including with his own current practice JPM Quantitative Strategy Advisors, Inc., but also spending several of these years with two "Big 4" firms BearingPoint (KPMG Consulting) and Accenture (Andersen Consulting).He has worked with clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to hedge funds to middle-market private companies, leading and delivering significant measurable returns on large global project teams on corporate strategy, strategic planning, business operations turnaround and restructuring, cash-flow performance improvement, M&A due diligence, and post-merger integration assignments. Major industries he has covered include oil, natural gas, power, chemicals, metals, mining and other related commodities. In addition, he has health care and manufacturing industry consulting experience.

Prior to strategy management consulting, he spent 7 years in the energy industry, as a Vice President of Corporate Development at both El Paso Corporation and Enron Corporation. At both, he was responsible for leading large domestic and international asset development, M&A, post-merger integration and P/L performance improvement, deal due diligence, deal and enterprise risk management. Before his time in industry, he spent 3 years in investment banking and capital markets at Merrill Lynch, Prudential Securities, and Citibank supporting senior bankers and traders in the areas of financial analysis, deal due diligence, underwriting, and risk management.

Mr. Mathew has three Masters degrees from The University of Chicago (MBA; Analytic Finance, Accounting), Harvard University (ALM; Finance), and Northwestern University (MS; Analytics). He also has an undergraduate degree in business, with majors in Economics and Finance with a minor in Mathematics from Loyola University of Chicago.

In addition to his work experience and education, he possesses several prestigious business credentials in public accounting, managerial accounting, valuation, forensic accounting, risk management, operations and supply chain management, and project management, such as the CPA, CMA, CGMA, ABV, CVA, CFFA, FRM, CPIM, CSCP, and PMP, respectively. He is also in final process of attaining both the ASA and CFA designations for additional valuation and finance credentialing.

Mr. Mathew is a former competitive musician and athlete, playing the drums and percussion in state competition, as well as competing in local, regional and national karate, judo, and taekwondo tournaments. He continues to have a passion for sports and strength training, as well as yoga and plyometrics. He is deeply fond of supporting independent music in the United States and Canada. He is an avid reader and has a passion for cooking, travel, and unwinding with his family and friends.
